Motorbike and jeep rental

If you would rather ride the loop on your own schedule, rent from us and take the same bikes our guided groups use. Every rental leaves the yard serviced, with a helmet, a rain cover and straps that actually hold a backpack.

Honda XR 150ccManual trail550,000 ₫ per day

The Wave is the bike we put almost everyone on. It is semi-automatic — you change gear with your foot but there is no clutch lever — which is the right tool for a road that spends all day going up and down. If you ride a clutch at home and want more power for the passes, take the HJ 125 or the XR 150.

We do not rent fully automatic scooters for the loop. On long descents an automatic gives you no engine braking, and the brakes are what you will be relying on for four hundred kilometres of mountain road.

Every bike rental includes

  • Helmet, and knee pads on request.
  • Rain cover for your backpack and elastic straps for luggage.
  • A paper route map with the fuel stops marked.
  • Damage cover on the bike.
  • Free storage in Ha Giang city for the luggage you leave behind.

  • With a driver: fuel, the driver and four bottles of water a day are included.
  • Self-drive: fuel included; damage cover is optional at 1,000,000 ₫ per day and we strongly recommend taking it.
  • Self-drive requires a licence Vietnam recognises — bring your 1968-convention international permit for car category B.

Before you rent

Two things we will ask you at the counter, and it is better you know them now. First, the licence: to ride legally in Vietnam you need a 1968-convention international driving permit endorsed A or A1 alongside your home licence. Insurance companies check this after an accident, and so do the police.

Second, your experience. If you have never ridden a geared bike, the Ha Giang Loop is not the place to learn on your own. Take a guided tour with a lead and tail rider, or book an easy rider and ride pillion. We would rather lose the rental than send someone unprepared onto Ma Pi Leng.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take a rental bike outside Ha Giang province?
Yes, including the Cao Bang route, but tell us where you are going. Some destinations change the deposit and we need to know where the bike is if anything happens.
What if the bike breaks down?
Call us. We have contacts in the mechanic shops along the loop and we will get you moving, usually the same day. Breakdown recovery is not automatic on a self-rental, which is one advantage of riding with a group.
Do you need my passport as a deposit?
No. We ask for a copy and a cash deposit instead. Handing your passport to a rental shop is a bad habit and it is not legally required.
Can I drop the bike in Dong Van or Meo Vac?
Rentals start and end in Ha Giang city. One-way drops can occasionally be arranged for a fee, but the loop brings you back anyway.
Is fuel included in the rental rate?
On the jeep, yes. On motorbike rentals fuel is on you — budget roughly 200,000 to 300,000 ₫ for the full loop.
