Itinerary

Day 1 — Ha Giang, Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Ma Pi Leng (B/L/D)

Briefing at 08:00 in our office: route, hand signals, how the semi-automatic gearbox works, and a practice lap for anyone who wants one. On the road by nine.

  • Bac Sum Pass and Heaven Gate — the first climb out of the valley, and the moment the landscape turns to limestone.
  • Tam Son town and the Fairy Mountain viewpoint above the twin hills of Quan Ba.
  • Lunch in Yen Minh around midday, then the Tham Ma Pass switchbacks.
  • Lao Sa village, where Hmong houses sit against the Chinese border.
  • The Vuong family palace in the Sa Phin valley, built by the opium kings of Dong Van in the early twentieth century.
  • A short trek along the Ma Pi Leng Skywalk, then the pass itself at golden hour.
  • 18:30 arrival in Pa Vi village. Dinner with the family, corn wine, cards and whatever music the guides start.

Day 2 — Ma Pi Leng, Mau Due, Yen Minh, Ha Giang (B/L)

  • Down to the river for the boat through Tu San Canyon, the deepest gorge in Southeast Asia.
  • Back over M Pass, a quieter road most day-trippers never see.
  • Lunch in Mau Due, then the long descent through Yen Minh.
  • Back in Ha Giang city between 17:00 and 18:00.
Pink peach blossoms frame a winding mountain road cutting through the rocky highlands of Ha Giang.

  • Two breakfasts, two lunches and one dinner.
  • Entrance tickets on the route, including the Nho Que River boat.
  • Motorbike damage cover.

Not included

  • Transport to and from Ha Giang city — we do not sell bus tickets, but we will tell you which service to book.
  • Personal travel insurance, which we ask every rider to hold.
  • Private room supplement: 400,000 ₫ per two people per night.
  • Bike upgrades: Suzuki HJ 125cc at 220,000 ₫ a day, Honda XR 150cc at 550,000 ₫ a day.
  • Drinks outside the meals listed and anything personal.

Is two days enough?

Honestly: it is enough to see the loop, not enough to sit in it. Day one is roughly nine hours from briefing to dinner, most of it moving. If your flight schedule forces the short version, take it — Ma Pi Leng at sunset does not care how long you had. If you can find one more day, the three-day package turns the same route into a trip rather than a sprint.

To ride yourself you must carry a 1968-convention international driving permit endorsed A or A1 together with your national licence. If you do not hold one, book the easy rider option instead — it is legal, it costs a little more, and you see more of the scenery.

Frequently asked questions

What time do I need to arrive in Ha Giang?
The evening before your start date. The night bus from Hanoi arrives around 04:00 to 05:00; your free dorm bed is available from the moment you get in, so most people sleep, shower and eat before the 08:00 briefing.
Can two of us share one bike?
Yes. Choose self-riding twice and we upgrade you free to a larger 125cc bike so it handles the passes with two people and luggage.
What is the sleeping arrangement?
A dorm room in a village homestay — mattresses on a raised platform, mosquito nets, shared bathroom. A private room is 400,000 ₫ per two people per night and must be paid before departure.
How heavy can my luggage be?
Bring a small backpack that straps to the bike. Suitcases and large packs stay in our locked storage in Ha Giang city at no cost.
Does the price include the boat on the Nho Que?
Yes. The boat ticket through Tu San Canyon is part of the package, along with every other entrance fee listed in the itinerary.
